    An event marking the outbreak of the Second World War on the 1st of September 1939 in Poland was held at the Scottish Parliament.

    The event took place on the 5th of September and was hosted by the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, The Rt Hon Ken Macintosh MSP and the Consul General of the Republic of Poland, Mr Ireneusz Truszkowski. Guest speakers included Ben Macpherson MSP, Minister for Europe, Migration and International Development and Mr Neal Ascherson, who gave a history talk on the Polish defensive campaign of 1939.  

     

     

     

    The event was also attended by Ivan McKee MSP, Minister for Trade, Investment and Innovation, Maree Todd MSP, Minister for Children and Young People), Members of the Parliament, representatives of the local authorities, including Provosts, members of local institutions and organisations and representatives of the Polish diaspora.

     

     

     

    The event was accompanied by the Second World War exhibition “Fighting and Suffering. Polish Citizens during World War II”.
